Memorial Biography

Charles E. Barrett 88, of Palm Bay, FL passed away surrounded by his loving family, at The William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay on October 2, 2017. Charlie was born on May 3, 1929 in Lynn, Massachusetts to Lillian and Albert Barrett. He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Marion.

Charlie also leaves his four children, Charlie Jr. and wife Martha of Orlando, Donna (Barrett) Ditmar and husband Paul of Palm Bay, Tom and wife Beverly of Livermore, California and Marianne (Barrett) Furnari and husband Joe from Salem, Massachusetts. His cherished Grandchildren, Kathleen (Barrett) Caron and husband, David of Orlando, Charlie Barrett of Indiana, Kristen (Barrett) Zuzchik and husband John of Orlando, Ryan Ditmar and wife Blaire of Orlando, Ashley (Barrett) Smith and husband Travis of Livermore, California, Courtney (Barrett) Meirndorf and husband John of Grants Pass, Oregon, Caitlin Furnari of Boston, Massachusetts and Joseph Furnari III of Salem, Massachusetts.

Charles also leaves his four Great-Grandchildren, Haley Caron, Ana and Johnny Zuzchik and Audrey Smith. Charles also leaves his sister Geraldine Pearson of Peabody, Massachusetts and his brother, Bob and wife Maureen from Lynnfield, Massachusetts, sisters-in law, Peggy and Cathy Barrett, sisters & brothers in law, Joanne & Les Hubbard, Inez & Robert Firth, Roberta & Frank Valeriani, Patricia & David Ohlson, and Aunt Magdeline Ross, as well as many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Charles was predeceased by his parents, Albert and Lillian as well as his brothers, Albert, Danny, Johnny and Paul.

Charles entered the U.S. Air Force at 17 and served proudly for five years. He traveled to many different places and loved reminiscing about his many adventures, especially while being stationed in Germany. He then met the love of his life, Marion (Firth). Charles and Marion were married at St.Mary’s Church in Lynn, Massachusetts on April 19, 1952. Charles worked for Metcalf & Eddy Engineering in Boston for many years before retiring in 1991. They resided in Lynn, Peabody and Lynnfield Massachusetts before moving to Orlando, Florida in 1999. Palm Bay, Florida has been their home for the past 8 years.

Charles and Marion enjoyed many wonderful years together with their children and grandchildren. They loved spending Holidays together as well as many memorable family vacations. Charlie was a kind and gentle man who will be sadly missed, not by just his devoted family, but by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  A celebration of Charlie’s Life will be held in Massachusetts on a future date. Special thanks to all the angels of The William Childs Hospice House in Palm Bay. They are truly a blessing. Their kindness in our time of need will never be forgotten.
